⁉️ Magic initiate irl - what spells would you choose?

I had a kind of random thought; what if you could get the benefits of the Magic Initiate feat in real life? What spells would you want to take? In fact, we can be generous and broaden this to choosing any two cantrips and any 1st level spell, regardless of spell list. We can also ignore casting ability score and assume we're equally competent with all spells.

⁉️ Can magic initiate spells upscale?

Can Magic initiate spells upscale? As I understand it, in d&d cantrips scale with character level, so those would increase. I'm not sure about rank 1 spells though. I would only allow an upcast *if* you took Magic Initiate for a class you already are and have spell slots for. Example, being a Wizard and taking Magic Initiate Wizard. so if a Fighter takes Magic Initiate Druid, they can't upcast because they have no spell slots to upcast, let alone having any druid slots to upcast it.

In short, you must follow your character’s normal spellcasting rules, which determine whether you can expend spell slots on the 1st-level spell you learn from Magic Initiate. In my first edition of the Player’s Handbook, only the Druid, Paladin, Sorcerer and Warlock class specify that you can cast spells of their respective classes with your spell slots.

An example of "variable upcasting": If a spell is a third level spell and you want to use a sixth level spell slot to cast it, normally this would make the spell a sixth level spell. This change would allow you to upcast the spell as if the spell slot were other levels. The minimum level would be the regular level of the spell. The maximum ...

You can even double down on your current class. Wizard, Magic Initiate- Wizard. You were an exceedingly good student and apprentice, mastering additional cantrips and learning an additional spell by heart. As an added bonus, you can add the spell from Magic Initiate into your spellbook and use your regular slots to cast it.

Is magic initiate wasted on the paladin?

I'm curious whether Magic Initiate is wasted on a paladin build. My concept is a 1st level Sword & Board OoA human paladin who watched his parents get eaten by a gelatinous cube, so he forms a sort of "Monster Hunter" business to weed out dangerous critters in the nearby towns and dungeons (which just happens to take me to the Temple of Elemental ...

Magick spells do not work the way most people "think" or "wish" they worked. For example, you won't cast a love spell and have the guy of your dreams knocking at your door a few hours later. Magick is not a "magic pill" that will instantly solve all your problems, and attract all your desires instantly.

Would you allow for a wizard in "heavy" mithril armor to cast spells?

RAW I think that a wizard (who is not proficient in heavy armor), should not be able to cast spells while wearing a mithril version of a heavy armor piece. Though, thematically, I think even a wizard should be able to wear mithril as if we has proficiency with it.
