WOTC's official stance, solved for by converting slots to spell points and assuming 2 short rests per day, and ignoring access to additional slots/points in specific classes (e.g. we can use Bards or Druids for comparison, as they don't have that at all), Warlocks have more spell points per day than normal full casters until level 5.

It doesn't make sense to give warlocks such a small number of spell slots overall, especially when they only get a few cantrips. For comparison, a sorcerer at level 11 gets 6 cantrips, 12 spells known, and spell slots up to 6th level. Why do warlocks, a so-called full casting class, get so few spell slots, cantrips, and spells known?

level 1. solife. · 6y. Warlocks don't really need more spell slots. Automatically scaling spell slots that reset on a short rest is VERY strong, especially when you realize you still have good cantrips, invocations, armor and simple weapon proficiency. This isn't listing warlock pact/patron bonuses on top of these inherent class features.

Why do warlocks only get 2 spell slots? Because of the warlock’s pact magic, those spells are maximized to the warlock’s highest available spell slot level. A sorcerer or wizard has cantrips to fall back on, AND they have the potential to just dump magic in a fight. Warlocks can’t do that.
