BigPapiChad 7 years ago #2. Nords don't hate Restoration magic. The guards say that they have a lot of respect for the Restoration school and that Skyrim could use more healers. But Nords are generally afraid of all other forms of magic. They don't trust it, they don't like it, and they don't realize it's usefulness.

12. Reputation: 10. Partly the reasons the Nord's hate magic is because they believe the College of Winterhold is the reason that Winterhold the city was destroyed, yet the College was left standing untouched. Nord's are warriors, and don't care for elves, and magic users. "The North Remembers" .

So if Nords dislike magic so much... The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Xbox 360

Marukhati Selective. 10 points · 6 years ago. I would say that Nords don't like the magic that they attribute to the elves, i.e. the normal "schools" of magic. They revere users of the Thu'um and the Greybeards, which is definitely magic. A different form of magic, but still magic.

Why do nords dislike magic? Alright, so I understand that it's mainly because they prefer brute force, and magic in general is kind of unknown for the commoner. But while reading about Saarthal, The Night of Tears, and the counter-attack by Ysgramor, I couldn't help but notice that victory over the snow elves wouldn't have been possible without magic and enchantments.

Anyway, to answer your question, Nords hate magic because it’s dishonorable. To them throwing a fireball that mercs like 5 dudes at once is a bitchmove, the elder scrolls equivalent to the noob tube.

Lore wise Nords in general distrust magic, they regard it as foreign and elf-ish. Ancient Nords appeared to be different but current Nords have no link to the past. It has to be said that most magic practitioners of the past were of the Dragon cult and they were overthrown as being cruel and despotic, which together with their mistrust of Elves makes modern Nords distrust magic and those who practise it.

Nords are proud people. And sometimes a bit nationalist, puritan, conservative guys. Do you know that for centuries Japanese ignored gunpowder guns and only used swords because they thought guns where for cowards ? Well,Nords ignore magic and only use swords because they think magic is for cowards.

Nords are stupid and I hate them. The only one I even remotely liked was Nels the Naughty. In Oblivion, quite a few Nords were the jolly ol' drunkards, but in Skyrim they really turn me off because they are all "GRRR IM A MARCUS FENIX IMITATOR IMMA CRUSH YOUR HEAD LIKE A WALNUT GRRR HONOR,MEAD GRRR IM TOUGH MAGIC SUX ITS THE DEVIL GRAAAAAAAH"

They seem to be the only race who genuinely hates magic as a whole. Nords don’t exactly like it but up until near the events of Skyrim they’ve always seemed to just kinda cautiously accept it. Bretons are more than likely to be fine with magic especially since they are so naturally talented with magic.
