Kabballah and alchemy are only very loosely related. Kabbalah rides upon the Hebrew words for mental processes so these words are as old as the language. But the Zohar is a fairly recently discovered document that has a bit of cloudy provenance.

Just as kabbalah had undergone a radical transformation at the hands of alchemists and Christian mystics, alchemy itself had also changed. While such manuscripts may be of dubious value for practical laboratory work, fortunately, they still are of value for interior spiritual initiation - an initiation that only the Secret Fire can bring.

This also stands for the element air or wind and hence is believed to be the symbol of ‘Breath of Life’ by God or the ‘Air we Breathe’. In Hebrew beliefs, it accounts for the unfathomable mysteries related with oneness of God. The alchemists strongly used this symbol as there was seeming similarity between Kabbalah and alchemy.

Alchemy (from Arabic: al-kīmiyā; from Ancient Greek: khumeía) is an ancient branch of natural philosophy, a philosophical and protoscientific tradition that was historically practiced in China, India, the Muslim world, and Europe. In its Western form, alchemy is first attested in a number of pseudepigraphical texts written in Greco-Roman Egypt during the first few centuries CE.
